Are you familiar with dental veneers? As you may know, these shells are bonded to your teeth to give you a healthy, attractive smile. Dental veneers can be used to correct crooked teeth, to whiten your smile, or to close small gaps in your mouth. Similarly, veneers are stain resistant and durable—but there are still things you can consider doing to extend the life of your veneers.
As you’ve probably guessed, you should brush and floss every day. Please remember to brush for at least two minutes at a time, twice a day. Similarly, you should consider using a non-abrasive toothpaste. You may even want to consider using a toothpaste designed for individuals with sensitive teeth.
If you have veneers, please remember to use your teeth properly. For example, have you ever met anyone who uses their teeth to open bottles, or to chew on their fingernails, ice, or pens? In reality, you shouldn’t do any of these things regardless of whether you have veneers. If you do any of these things or chew on anything you shouldn’t, you may crack your veneers. If this happens, you’ll need to have replacement veneers done. Similarly, you will want to limit your intake of certain drinks such as alcohol and soda which can harm your veneers.
And finally, you will want to visit our dentist once every six months. To learn more about what you can do for your veneers, or to schedule your next visit, please call Monroe Family Dentistry at 734-241-6550. Dr. Dull and Dr. Karpenko look forward to hearing from you soon!
